Description

I developed this game in a team for the GMTK Game Jam, it placed 32nd out of 1034 entries with an average rating of 4.375 / 5. The jam took place over 2 days and the team consisted primarily of artists with me being the sole programmer on the project.

The theme of the jam was genre without mechanic, so we did platformer but without movement. In decapitate dave the player finds inventive solutions using the environment in order to get a decapitated statue of david across to the end of the level. There are a variety of tools they can use to achieve this, everything from repulsors to dimensional portals wound up in the final game.

I completed this game jam with the help of:

What I learnt.

This was the first game jam I took part in where I worked with artists, this brought in a lot of teamworking challenges such as communicating technical requirements such as texture dimensions etc. We also had to be careful of our time management, with more artists then programmers it was important that we plan to have certain features implemented in sync with when the art assets got completed, otherwise there would be a lot of wasted time.

This jam taught me how to work with artists and communicate as a team, as well as improving my ability to be criticized and look at my ideas objectively to think if they will work properly. In the next jam we did together we organised our time more efficiently and drew up concrete project plans before beginning any implementation.
